Snapshot of the Issue

Leviticus 19:33 - 34
When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.

During the recent xenophobic attacks on foreigners in our country, approximately 20 000 people in and around Cape Town alone were left displaced and destitute. Although some have returned to their homelands or sought refuge in neighbouring countries, the majority have gone back to the places they fled. However, for lack of an alternative, a number of people remain in safety sites which the provincial government plans to close. In response, CGC has devised a Refugee Integration Plan whereby we have committed to helping refugees in Chrysalis Camp in Tokai, get back on their feet.

Interventions such as this have the power to heal and restore hope in people who have been victimised and traumatised. It also displays that most South Africans deplore xenophobia.
