When you think of Jesus, who comes to
mind?
A baby in a manger? A pale, 1st
Century hippie trapped in stain glass windows? A well-meaning, but misguided
heretic? The God-man? A pawn in a grand political and religious scheme? A
crutch for the weak and superstitious? A great moral teacher?
Believe what you will about him, nobody
else has created more controversy, changed more lives, shaped more of culture,
or shifted more of history than Jesus. No one has taught more provocatively
about life’s meaning, nor walked the talk more authentically.
Surely such a defining figure deserves a
closer look – by sceptics, cynics and believers alike. Join us on an 8-week
exploration of who Jesus really is, and why it could matter to you.
We’re investigating Jesus in mid-week
groups and Sunday services.
MID-WEEK GROUPS: Starting the first week of August, for 8 weeks, over 130 groups will
meet in homes or offices all over the city. Each group of 5 to 15 people, after
a meal or snack, will watch and then discuss a 30-min DVD presentation by Mark
Driscoll, best-selling author of Vintage Jesus.
Why not join the group of someone you know, or email realjesusgroups@commongroundchurch.co.za to be assigned to a group near you.
SUNDAY SERVICES: Starting the 1st of August, every Sunday message will look at Jesus
up close, through the eyes of someone he actually encountered. Our services are
designed to be inclusive of people who don’t normally go to church. Morning
services include a great children’s programme too.
Locations and service times: Rondebosch
(23 Milner Rd) @ 9am, 11am, 5pm, 7pm. Tokai/Constantia at The Range (off Spaanschemat Rd) @10am. Inner City
(St Stephen’s Church, Riebeek Square on Bree St) @ 6pm.
Here’s what the journey looks like…

Check out these quotes about Jesus...
“I am not a believer, but I must confess as
a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is easily the most
dominant figure in all history.” H.G. Wells
“I am enthralled by the luminous figure of
the Nazarene. No one can read the gospels without feeling the actual presence
of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth could be filled with
such life.” Albert Einstein
“I find Jesus to be the unsurpassed master
of the art of laying bare the inmost core of spiritual truth.” Geza Vermes
“Jesus is God spelling himself out in
language that people can understand.” S.D. Gordon
“Despite our efforts to keep him out, God
intrudes. Jesus’ life is bracketed by two impossibilities: a virgin's womb and
an empty tomb. He entered our world through a door marked, "No
Entrance" and left through a door marked "No Exit."” Peter Larson
“If there’s one person I’d like to
interview it’s Jesus. I’d ask if he was indeed virgin born, because the answer
to that question would define history.” Larry King
